Hello We’re Citywolf

Queens of the Stone AgeHey, Sam here! My friends, sister, and I are starting a band, and thought it would be a fun idea to write down our thoughts as we figure out how this whole band thing works 😉 Hopefully we progress to the point where we release a few songs, and we can turn this blog into our official band website and be able to look back on how we did things in the early days.

Oh I should mention our band name is Citywolfs. There’s not much thought put behind the name, we found one other band named City Wolf – two words – so it’s not quite taken. Also we just thought it sounded cool. I’m gonna design a logo for our band, and it seems like I should be able to do something cool with Citywolfs.

The way we came together is kind of interesting. I’ve actually only recently started playing the electric guitar, it has always been kind of a dream of mine to be a good guitarist and play in front of people in a band. This is going to sound funny but my band mates Travis and Mikey don’t have that much musical talent either. Travis can kind of sing, and by that I mean his voice does not completely suck 😛 I can’t wait until he reads this.  Mikey’s dad plays drums, and Mikey has been messing around on his dad’s kit. He likes it enough to where he can sneak in some practice sessions and be the drummer for our band. We were missing a bass player, and it turns out my sister plays the cello, so she has some musical talent. She has played bass guitar before just messing around with it and actually sounded decent, so I asked her if she wanted to play bass with us and she agreed. Tara and I argue a LOT so this should be interesting!

Starting from scratch learning guitar has been really hard and also really fun. I want to write more about how I’ve gone about learning but I’ll save that for another post – it’s almost time for me to go practice! Travis and I used to make funny rhymes and poems together, so songwriting doesn’t feel too foreign to us. In fact, it’s giving me motivation to learn to play the guitar even faster, since I don’t want my playing to limit the types of styles of songs we can play!

One of our favorite bands is Queens of the Stone Age, so that type of sound is gonna be very influential to us. I need to become as good as Troy Van Leeuwen :-)

OK it’s practice time, peace for now. Next entry hopefully soon. I’ll make a Twitter account for Citywolfs too so you can get updates there.
